I Am...
I am….
I am Eve….
hungering for the next ripe fruit,
hiding from His presence,
struggling to make sense of it all,
searching for any leaf big enough
to cover the nakedness I feel.
I am Adam and Eve…
hearing the sound of God walking in the garden
hiding from His presence, indeed
knowing good and evil
fearing the worst
naked and afraid.
I am Jacob….
fearing to confront the past
trying to pacify myself and others
wrestling, alone with man and God
hoping desperately to overcome
the sins of the past.
I am Jonah….
running from God and His word,
fleeing by any means going the opposite way,
catching a few winks hoping to escape it all,
awakening to questions I want to avoid.
And once again…
I am Jonah…
grappling my way through world weariness,
struggling to stay alive in a world gone mad,
praying as one sure to die, yet,
longing and knowing, someday I will see His loving face.
I am the children of Israel….
wandering the wilderness of sin, abuse and trauma,
searching for a trail that leads out of tangled briers of guilt,
molding my own idols that only lead to,
hungering and thirsting for the Great I Am.
I am Job….
fearing God focused on doing His will,
praying for my children, ‘greats’ and ‘great grands,’
knowing how easy it is to curse God in our hearts,
grappling with the reality of life in this world.
Once again, I am Job….
sitting in the ash heap of his sorrows,
pondering the ‘curse God and die’ advice,
surrounding myself with friends trying to make sense of it all,
struggling, yet knowing..“though He slay me, yet I will trust Him.”
In my higher moments,
I am David…
knowing you God, formed me in my mother’s womb,
assuring myself by your word, that you,
knowing my thoughts in the making, are
searching and leading me in the way everlasting.
I am Mary, the mother of Jesus…
questioning, troubled, at such a word spoken,
pondering, yet willing to be his handmaiden,
wondering, not knowing what the future would hold,
surrendering to the Father’s will.
I am Mary, of Bethany…
sitting at the feet of Jesus, oblivious to chores undone,
clinging to His life-giving words,
knowing assuredly, beyond all doubt, I am
choosing what is better and it won’t be taken away.
But You Lord God, are “THE GREAT I AM,”
Announcing to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”
Declaring – “this is my name forever.”
Clarifying – “the name you shall call me by.”
Assuring us all – it’s “from generation to generation.”
HE IS THE GREAT I AM!…and there is no other!

In Holy Fear
As I write this morning the world is in what is called a “global pandemic.” A vicious virus named “Covid 19” seems to have started in China, and has been spreading apparently silently and rapidly across the world.
Be Still and Be…
Many years ago I read the following “Be still and know that I am God” which of course is a quote from Psalm 46 in the Bible. But it was the way it was written down that drew my attention.
New Every Morning
I Am Grateful That His Mercies Are New Every Morning Yesterday was one of those days I find as best described in the phrase “from the pit of hell!” Or a more biblical phrase might be from “the gates of hell”....such as Jesus’ words “I will build my church and the...
